Indie Interview: Amy Maurer Jones

1. What book inspired you most before you became a writer yourself?
Anything by Cassandra Clare. I love reading/writing books that are told from multiple perspectives. It is a challenging process but makes for an incredilble story if done well. Cassandra is a master at this!

2. First book you ever remember reading?
Where the Red Fern Grows

3. How do you pick your character's names?
It depends on the story. For The Soul Quest Trilogy I looked up names by their meanings. If I had a character that was a strong warrior, I'd type in, strong warrior and consider my choices.

The book I'm working on now is a little different. Some of the concepts of the book are based on my own family history some of the names are names of my ancestors. Other names were selected based on ethnicity or they were just names popular during that particular time period.

4. Name an excellent indie book that you think needs more recognition.
Olympia Heights; The Pantheon by Amy Leigh Strickland. If you love Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson series this is the book for you!

5. Share some quotes you love! Either from your book or someone else's!

"It is not in the stars
to hold our destiny
but in ourselves."

- William Shakespeare

"One of the greatest
discoveries a man makes,
one of his great surprises,
is to find he can do what
he was afraid he couldn't do."

- Henry Ford

"Trust in dreams,
for in them is
hidden the gate
to eternity."

- Kahlil Gibran

“We are paid for our
suspicions by finding
what we suspected.”

- Henry David Thoreau

“We dance round
in a ring and suppose,
but the secret sits in
the middle and knows.”

- Robert Frost

“What lies behind us and
what lies before us are tiny
matters compared to what
lies within us.”

- Ralph Waldo Emerson

“In a minute there is time
for decisions and revisions
which a minute will reverse.”

~T.S. Eliot
